PRACTICE 1


INDEP 1. Jet lag affects most long-distance travelers .

DEP 2. Which is simply the urge to sleep at inappropriate times

INDEP 3. During long journeys through several time zones, the body's inner clock is disrupted .

DEP 4. For some reason,travel from west to east causes greater jet lag that travel from east to west

DEP 5. Also,changes in work schedules can causes jet lag

DEP 6. When hospital nurses change from a day shift to a night shift,for example

DEP 7. Although there is no sure way to prevent jet lag

INDEP 8. There are some ways to minimize it .

DEP 9. Because jet lag is caused at least partially by loss of sleep, not just change in the time of sleep

INDEP 10. A traveler should plan to arrive at his or her destination as late as possible .

DEP 11. Upon arriving,he or she should immediately go to bed

DEP 12. Then the traveler should start to live in the new time frame immediately








KINDS OF SENTENCES ( JENIS-JENIS KALIMAT )

Kalimat adalah sekelompok kata yang digunakan untuk mengungkapkan pikiran secara utuh . setiap kalimat dapat di bentuk oleh satu atau beberapa klausa dan mengungkapkan gagasannya secara lengkap .

Pada dasarnya terdapat 4 jenis kalimat dalam bahasa inggris , di antaranya :

1. Simple sentences
2. Compound sentences
3. Complex sentences
4. Compound-Complex sentences



SIMPLE SENTENCES

Simple sentence dapat disebut juga satu independent clause , yaitu sebuah kalimat yang memuat subyek dan kata kerja yang mengemukakan gagasan secara lengkap dan kalimat itu dapat berdiri sendiri.


Contoh-contoh simple sentences :

1. The class sing a nice song .
( Kalimat ini mempunyai satu subyek ( the class ) dan satu kata kerja ( sing ) .


2. I visited my grandfather’s house and stayed at his house .
(Kalimat ini mempunyai satu subyek ( I ) dan dua kata kerja ( visited dan stayed ) yang disebut compound verb ) .


3. Ade and Andri go into the field and play football every afternoon .
(Kalimat ini mempunyai dua subyek ( Ade and Andri ) yang disebut compound subject , dan dua kata kerja ( go and play ) yang disebut compound verb , tetapi kalimat ini masih termasuk simple sentence karena masih dalam satu klausa .



Tiga contoh diatas adalah kalimat-kalimat simple sentences , yang memuat subyek dan kata kerja dan mengungkapkan gagasan secara lengkap . Tetapi , simple sentences juga dapat berisi beberapa subyek ( compound subject ) dan beberapa kata kerja ( compound verb ) seperti pada contoh nomor 2 dan 3 di atas .
